15 Years With Teatro ZinZanni
You read that right! There is an incredible love story here at Teatro ZinZanni – with our one and only Duo Madrona. These two lovebirds are celebrating 15 years together high above the center ring at Teatro ZinZanni, and we are delighted to celebrate it. For this remarkable duo, their journey began in 2009 with the show titled Under the Gypsy Moon – nerves mingled with excitement, launching them into a captivating realm of performance artistry.
Since that unforgettable debut, Duo Madrona has evolved not only as performers but also as partners, navigating the thrilling highs and challenging acrobatic feats of their shared passion. As they mark this milestone anniversary, the duo reflects on their transformative journey with Teatro ZinZanni and their plans to celebrate their enduring love and dedication this Valentine’s Day.

When was your first Teatro ZinZanni show? (And were you nervous?!)
February 9, 2009 “Under the Gypsy Moon.” Heck yeah we were nervous! Our career had just taken off and there we were, performing with a powerful and experienced ensemble of performers, many of whom were our mentors and idols, including the foot jugglers Les Castors, hand-balancer Elena Borodina and great clown Joe De Paul. We had spent years working on our trapeze material to get to this point, but working in an intimate circus production that included a feast was new territory. The audience was so close! The other cast members were so clever and bold! Duffy Bishop launched us into our trapeze act with her dynamite rendition of “Boom Boom” and the rest was history. It was an unforgettable coming out party for our home crowd.

How have things changed for you as a couple since your first TZZ show?
Our material over the years has developed as we’ve grown together as partners and performers. Since our debut with ZinZanni, we’ve logged over 2000 performances and played a wide variety of characters and experiences which accumulate to give us confidence and depth in what we present for our audiences. We’ve had 2 children, overcome injuries and a pandemic, and are continually pressed to adapt to life’s challenges to sustain what we do.
Are you celebrating Valentine’s Day and your love in some special way this year?
We’ll be celebrating Valentine’s Day as we usually do, on a date at ZinZanni, performing a love story on the trapeze for 250+ of our newest friends. Call it a workplace romance.
