Teatro ZinZanni was created by a team of creative artists and theatre professionals who have been working together for over 40 years in the Puget Sound area providing live entertainment for the communities of the Pacific Northwest. Teatro ZinZanni launched in Seattle by Norm Langill and the parent company One Reel in 1998. The leadership team has worked together to produce a number of high-profile projects including Bumbershoot, Summer Nights at the Pier, the Family Fourth on Lake Union, and the WOMAD Festival at Marymoor Park.
Founder & Artistic Director
Norman’s career spans over forty years beginning with the creation of One Reel in 1972. The once traveling, off-beat vaudeville troupe performing from a fold-down stage of an old 1931 Model A truck expanded to become an entertainment empire. As Founder and President, he presided over high-profile events including the Bumbershoot Arts Festival, Summer Nights at the Pier concert series, Family Fourth of July Fireworks bash, the WOMAD USA festival, and Denver’s Lodo Festival. In addition, he created Seattle’s world-class 1990 Goodwill Games Arts Festival, a ground-breaking American tour by Japan’s Grand Kabuki Theatre, orchestrated the first live performance by Spinal Tap, and produced the original tri-lingual musical Gumbo YaYa for the 1992 Cultural Olympiad in Barcelona.
The original concept for Teatro ZinZanni was sparked by that visit to Spain, when Norman strolled into a weather-beaten spiegeltent. Inspired by the great cabarets of Europe, spiked with a fresh sense of American comedy, and steeped in absurdity, Teatro ZinZanni took shape. Since 1998 Norman Langill has conceived and directed over 50 productions and presided over 6,000 performances in Seattle, San Francisco, and Costa Mesa. Norman has been recognized for many accomplishments over the years including an Emmy for writing, a Grammy for lifetime achievement, the Royal Brougham Award, and an induction into the International Festivals Hall of Fame.

Originally from Switzerland where he held the posts of Managing and Artistic Director of the Theater “Dimitri,” in Verscio and Artistic Director for KleinTheater in Lucerne, Markus brings a long career in the theater to the spiegeltent. He’s been an instructor, a researcher, a project manager, a producer, a dramaturg, a board member, an acting coach and a fundraiser. For Theater Dimitri, a cultural center serving established actors, actors making their debut, theater and museum lovers and artists from all over the E.U. and the world, Markus managed the school, the company, a museum and a restaurant, producing over 200 shows a year. Markus convened a task force of Teatro ZinZanni staffers whose passion and experience for both circus arts and summer camps resulted in the successful launch of Camp ZinZanni in July 2008.

A physical and improvisational humorist, Kevin Kent was a cast member of the original Teatro ZinZanni show in Seattle in 1998 and the subsequent debut show in San Francisco in 2000. To continue his streak of ZinZanni firsts, he was part of the first Teatro ZinZanni touring production in Southern California. Kevin combines his writing, odd notions, and improvisational skills to transport the audience to exciting and wonderful places. Kevin and his partner, Joe, have a brand new company called K. Kent Co. Performance. Their inaugural production, Eulogy, a memorial for a loved one, is created new each night from family photos supplied by the audience. K.Kent Co. is developing their second production with Imogen Love. The show, Dear John, is a meditation on the eccentric shoe designer, John Fluevog, and a woman who loves him.
