Founder & Artistic Director
Norman is the creator of the special world of Teatro ZinZanni. He began his journey in 1972 with the creation of One Reel, the once traveling, off-beat vaudeville troupe that created campy classics, performed from the fold-down stage of an old 1931 Model A truck. Norman’s career broadened to stage and screen actor, Emmy award-winning writer, playwright, director, producer, and Chief Executive Officer and President of One Reel. In 2011, 13 years after the creation of Teatro ZinZanni, Norman went back to his roots, leaving One Reel to serve full-time as president and artistic director of Teatro ZinZanni – producing campy classics performed in an old tent.
While best known for high-profile projects like Bumbershoot, Summer Nights at the Pier, the Family Fourth on Lake Union, WOMAD Festival and other live events Norman is more likely to cite his other accomplishments: orchestrating the first live performance of Spinal Tap; producing the first U.S. National tour of The Grand Kabuki Theatre of Japan; and producing the original tri-lingual musical Gumbo YaYa at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.
