About the Cast
An acclaimed actress, musician, aerialist and choreographer, Dreya Weber headlined in Teatro ZinZanni’s, Hail Caesar! as “Cleo” and Gangsters Of Love as “Myrna Malloy”. She produced and stars in feature films A Marine Story and The Gymnast, collectively honored with 48 festival awards including seven ‘best actress’ nods. As aerial choreographer, Dreya conceived Pink’s celebrated 2014 and 2010 Grammy performances of Try and Glitter in the Air, deemed “transcendent” by Oprah Winfrey. Choreographic credits include Michael Jackson, Cher, Madonna, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, and Pink. Dreya starred as the Genie in Caesar’s Palazzo in Amsterdam. Writing credits include Club Seduce, Gangsters Of Love and lyrics for both. Her directorial work can be seen in Frank Ferrante’s “Evening with Groucho” at the ACT Theater.
Ben Wendel and Rachel Nehmer met as biology students at Haverford College. After a successful stint as lab partners, the couple decided to try out a new kind of collaboration – on a trapeze suspended from a madrone tree. Duo Madrona created their duet at Seattle’s School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts (SANCA), and made their debut at the 2006 Moisture Festival. In the years following they logged over 1200 performances across the US and Europe, including the 29th Festival du Cirque de Demain, Circus Flora, Tigerpalast Variete, Palazzo, Circus Monti, and, most recently, an appearance on Patrick Sebastien’s “Le Plus Grand Cabaret du Monde” on French television. When Sparks Fly marks Ben and Rachel’s seventh production with Teatro ZinZanni.
Elena Gatilova spent fifteen years mastering her skills as a rhythmic gymnast. A several-time national champion, Elena is the recipient of various prestigious international awards. After finishing her professional sporting career, Elena left Ukraine to perform all over the world. Elena was featured as a principal acrobatic character and lead dancer in the Las Vegas show Zumanity. She also appeared in Playboy, Vanity Fair, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Last Call with Carson Daly, and in the movie LoveSick. She has worked with world-renowned artists such as Cher, Thierry Mugler, David LaChapelle, Luca Tommassini, and Bill Goodson. Further work includes performances in the Italian TV show, Chiambretti Night. Recently, along with Dita Von Teese, Elena highlighted the sexy high-end cabaret show TABOO, directed by Franco Dragone.
Joe De Paul
Canadian actor, writer, teacher, director, and clown Joe De Paul has always had a gargantuan appetite for performing. A veteran of numerous Cirque du Soleil productions, Joe’s unique physical comedy has brought him critical acclaim in various circuses and cabarets throughout Europe. Joe toured from Spain to Finland with Los Galindos street circus. He taught at the Geneva Circus School, FRACO clown school, and Concordia University Montreal. Joe has written and directed for Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, performed as a clown in the Football Show during the World Cup in Berlin and hosted the Förder Preis, The Zurich Cultural Awards Ceremony. Joe’s latest creation is a full-length solo clown show title Placebo. Joe’s career has scaled numerous heights, including appearances in over 20 film and television events.
American lyric soprano Kristin Clayton has enjoyed portraying some of the great leading ladies in the operatic repertoire with companies throughout the United States. She has garnered high praise for her appearances with Houston Grand Opera, Opera Colorado, Opera Theater of Saint Louis, and San Francisco Opera, where she is a graduate of both the prestigious Merola and Adler Fellow Programs. An original San Francisco ZinZanni cast member, Ms. Clayton’s vocal and theatrical artistry has been on display in the spiegeltent in a wide variety of roles. Ms. Clayton, who lives in San Francisco, is featured on a recording of Jake Heggie’s songs titled “The Faces of Love”, (RCA-Red Seal), as the Young Babylonian in Massenet’s “Herodiade”, (Sony Classical) and on a Teatro ZinZanni recording of “The Divas”.
Russian performance artist Svetlana blends modern dance, pantomime skills, magic, and contortion in the creation of her sensational puppet act. Undulating, shifting, transforming right before your eyes, Svetlana’s puppet has been warmly received by the audience as both a highly skilled acrobatic performance and as a new comedic and romantic character. Trained in the ancient art of contortion from the age of nine, Svetlana studied at the Kiev Municipal Academy of Circus and Variety Arts and has performed at some of Europe’s most distinguished venues including the Wintergarten and the Apollo. She is an original Teatro ZinZanni cast member.
Known throughout the world as “The Maestro”, Ukrainian-born illusionist Voronin has been described as the essence of Buster Keaton and Jacques Tati. After graduating from renowned Kiev Academy of Circus Arts and Russian University of Theater Arts, Voronin founded his own company, The Theater of Cagliostro. He is an acclaimed recipient of first place in magic competitions in Germany, Moscow, and Austria; Monte Carlo Magic Stars award, Magic Hands Grand Prix, Siegfried and Roy prize for Master Magician, and The Great Lafayette award. Voronin is returning to Seattle fresh from his most recent European production at Palazzo Berlin, where his character is known simply as Count Voronin. An original cast member from the first 1998 tour, this show marks Voronin’s 23rd Teatro ZinZanni performance.
